Plaza de España is situated in the very heart of Conil’s old town. Around this historic Andalusian square you will find plenty of exquisite restaurants, the famous Arco de la Villa which dates back to 1502, and the monument of Portuguese writer Jose Saramago who received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1998. The nearby Puerta del la Villa or Arco de la Villa is the only remaining gate to the old walled enclosure of Conil out of the four which used to exist in the 16th century. Due to its long history it it has been listed as an Asset of Cultural Interest (ACI) since June 1985.
